Obituary


Lucille O. Harris, 88, went home to be with the Lord on October 9, 2016. A wake will be held Friday, October 14th from 9-11 a.m. with the funeral service at 11 a.m. at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 417 Richmond Ave., KCKS 66101. Interment will follow services at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, 701 N. 94th St., KCKS 66112.

Lucille was born April 10, 1928 in Ashdown, Arkansas to Ed, Sr. and Ollie (McFadden) Owens. When she moved from Ashdown to Kansas City, Lucille met and married Londell Harris, Sr. and from that marriage they had five children. Lucille was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church for 61 years, serving on the usher board as a senior usher 50 years while also working as secretary for the Mrs. Wilma Bachus for over 40 years. She worked for the Housing Authority of Kansas City, Kansas for 30 years and achieved major accomplishments during her time there. In her free time, she received great joy from tending to her flower garden. Lucille's family and friends will remember her for her independence and her giving nature.
Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, Ed, Sr. and Ollie; son, Alvin Harris; brother, Ed Owens, Jr. and two sisters, Helen Baldwin and Charlene Gandy. She leaves to celebrate her life and her memory her children, Londell Jr. and wife Sarah, Brenda Weaver and husband Larry, Doris Townsend and husband Zachary, Sheila Allen and husband Richard, Jr.; brother, James Owens, Sr. of KCMO; sister, Ida Andrews of Denver, CO; as well as a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives and friends.
